Old School paper college Guides were great but...

Learning about other countries is harder.

As my eldest daughter grew up, she wanted to save money and travel instead of attending State U.

But she realized the English language degrees she’d heard about in Europe weren’t in her areas of interest.

But, like, weren’t they? We couldn’t always tell.

And it was difficult to find out.

English web pages for European universities, even when the programs are taught in English, are tough to find.

Directories left out good schools and confused us both as we struggled to figure out if we were even welcome to apply.

The simple bullet point lists of costs and degrees offered were handy, but also left us wanting more.

The Internet Gave Us So Much information

We couldn't find what we needed.

Is there a guidebook for European colleges?

No.

There were databases and personal coaches. They cost a lot. There was a new world of Youtube videos where students could find other students talking about the dorms, showing off the towns, and venting about the drawbacks of their programs. Those were helpful!

But it still meant would-be students would have to root through them alongside translating lots of local websites, then contact students (scary) and attend visit days (how?) to get their questions answered.

If I was going to do this anyway, I may as well write the guidebook, I thought.

Who Am I?

Eventually, I went to a few schools. I studied abroad (but did not get a degree abroad) in Québec. While my French died a slow, painful death, my passion for getting on planes has never gone away.

Eventually, I even got a Ph.D. and became a content writer, strategist, and researcher.
